I’m thrilled to share that I recently earned my AWS Cloud Practitioner Certification! This has been an exciting journey of learning and growth, and I’m eager to leverage the knowledge I’ve gained to enhance my skills in cloud computing. I want to take a moment to reflect on what I’ve learned and the key takeaways from the certification process.
Why I Chose AWS Cloud Practitioner
Cloud computing was touched on during my Data Science and AI bootcamp course and was something that I was not only able to apply in one of my class projects, but was also something that I was truly interested in exploring more about.
As cloud computing becomes increasingly integral to modern business operations, gaining foundational knowledge in cloud services felt like a natural next step for my career development. The AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner is an entry-level certification designed to validate a fundamental understanding of AWS Cloud services and how they work. It’s perfect for individuals who are new to cloud technology, or for professionals looking to broaden their understanding of how AWS supports business innovation and cost optimization.
Key Learnings from the AWS Cloud Practitioner Certification
During my preparation and exam, I gained insights into several critical concepts, including:
• AWS Global Infrastructure: One of the first things I learned was how vast and interconnected AWS is. AWS operates from a network of data centers around the globe, with Regions and Availability Zones designed to support low-latency and fault-tolerant services. This is the backbone of how AWS delivers fast, reliable, and scalable cloud solutions.
• Core AWS Services: I now have a good grasp of core AWS services like Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud), which allows businesses to scale computing resources up or down as needed, and Amazon S3 (Simple Storage Service), a highly durable and secure storage service for a wide range of data types. Understanding these services will help me recommend solutions based on business needs, whether it’s for compute power, storage, or networking.
• AWS Security and Compliance: Security is paramount in any cloud environment, and AWS has a robust security model that includes shared responsibility between AWS and the customer. I learned how services like AWS Identity and Access Management (IAM) help secure resources by controlling user access, a key part of maintaining a secure cloud infrastructure.
• Billing and Pricing Models: One of the most important takeaways was understanding how AWS’s flexible pricing works. I now understand the difference between Pay-as-you-go pricing and Reserved Instances, which can significantly reduce costs based on predictable usage patterns. This knowledge will be instrumental when discussing cloud solutions with business stakeholders, as AWS’s pricing model allows for scalability without unexpected costs.
• Cloud Architecture Best Practices: AWS promotes the Well-Architected Framework, which offers guidance on how to design and operate reliable, secure, efficient, and cost-effective systems in the cloud. Learning about this framework gave me valuable insights into how businesses can optimize their cloud environments for both performance and cost.
What’s Next?
Now that I’ve achieved my AWS Cloud Practitioner Certification, I’m eager to continue deepening my knowledge of AWS. I plan to explore other certifications like AWS Solutions Architect – Associate, which will help me build more complex architectures and solutions. I’m also excited to apply my learning to real-world projects, whether it’s streamlining processes, optimizing cloud resources, or helping organizations transition to cloud environments.
